Regulatory Statuses

Understand what financial-company regulatory labels mean, how they differ, and what to check before relying on them.

Finauthority researches licensing claims and regulatory information. We are an independent research platform, not a financial regulator. Our classifications reflect the information available at the time of review and should be read alongside the underlying sources.

Understand the Regulatory Labels

Regulated

Relevant authorization has been independently identified and reasonably matched to the legal entity and activity. Authorization applies within a particular scope and jurisdiction; it does not guarantee financial safety, successful withdrawals or suitability for your needs.

Licensed

A relevant financial license has been identified. Check which entity holds it, which services it covers and where it applies. A license held by one company does not automatically cover every related brand, website or group entity.

Registered

A registration relevant to the company’s activity has been identified. Registration can involve different levels of oversight. Company incorporation, tax registration and certain regulatory registrations should not be treated as equivalent to full financial-services authorization.

Unregulated

No relevant financial authorization has been identified in the context reviewed. The explanation matters: some activities may fall outside a particular licensing requirement. This label alone does not establish fraud or unlawful conduct, although regulatory protections may be limited.

License Not Verified

The company makes a licensing or authorization claim that we could not independently confirm. This may reflect incomplete records, mismatched details or an unclear claim. It does not automatically establish that the claim is false.

Regulatory Warning

A competent authority has published a relevant warning concerning the company, brand, website or associated entity. Read the original notice for its scope and identifying details. A regulatory warning does not automatically amount to a criminal conviction.

Potential Clone / Identity Concern

Evidence suggests a significant mismatch between a brand or website and the regulated entity whose credentials are presented. An authentic license number alone cannot establish that a website belongs to its holder. Check the regulator-listed contact details.

Regulatory Status Under Review

Relevant information is incomplete, conflicting or undergoing further verification. This label communicates uncertainty rather than a final conclusion. Consult the profile’s explanation and available official records before relying on a regulatory claim.

Three Different Measures

Regulatory Status concerns licensing, authorization and the relevant regulatory position.

Finauthority Score is an editorial research assessment based on the published methodology.

User Rating reflects eligible ratings submitted by users.

These measures answer different questions. Positive reviews cannot establish authorization or override an official regulatory warning.

Official Warnings and Finauthority Risk Alerts

An official regulatory warning comes from a competent public authority. A Finauthority Risk Alert communicates concerns identified through our editorial research.

An editorial alert should not be read as an official finding. Likewise, an unverified authorization claim, a user allegation and a confirmed regulatory warning carry different meanings and should be assessed in context.

Read Other Labels in Context

Claiming a profile concerns permission to manage certain profile information, not regulatory approval. Labels describing company-provided or independently checked information identify its source or verification status. They do not, by themselves, establish financial authorization.

Check the Details Behind the Label

Before relying on a regulatory claim, check:

  • The exact legal entity and its connection to the website.
  • The regulator and license or reference number.
  • The current authorization status, including restrictions.
  • The services, customer categories and jurisdictions covered.
  • Any official warnings matching that entity or domain.
  • The profile’s review date and the latest official register entry.

Regulatory information can change. Verify important details directly with the relevant authority before entering a financial relationship.
